My family and I have been residents of Miami since arriving from Cuba in 1966. In Cuba, my parents were school teachers and worked at a family owned school named "Colegio Amador" in Havana. They received their teachers' certificate from the State of Florida, and worked as teachers for the Miami-Dade County public School for over twenty years prior to their retirement. My two sisters as well as other family members are current Miami-Dade Public School teachers.
As a child I attended the "Brigada 2506" meetings with my father and uncle, and we had an attack boat in our yard. I grew up with a deep love for Cuba and for freedom. I, therefore, trained in the military with the United States Marine Corps. Cuba and the struggle for freedom continue to be very dear to me.
After graduating from High School in Miami, I received a Bachelor’s degree from St. Thomas University in Miami. Thereafter, I received a Juris Doctorate Law Degree from William Howard Taft University in California. I currently work as an attorney in Miami practicing in the area of federal agency law. I am currently an active member of the bar of the Federal Court of Appeals in Atlanta, the bar of the Northern District of Florida and the California Bar.
The residents of our communities find their standard of living threatened by rising prices on virtually everything they pay for and consume. As your legislator in Tallahassee, I will aggressively confront the economic concerns of our citizens with intelligent and balanced solutions that will bring economic relief and prosperity to our families.
I will work towards intelligently reforming
Insurance to truly work to lower Florida's windstorm insurance coverage. This will require a complete overhaul of the policies that have driven away countless insurance companies; and reduction of fraud. In addition it may be possible to reform citizen's Insurance or create a national plan similar to flood insurance. In a state like Florida, which is prone to hurricanes - cost effective insurance plans will bring relief and boost our economy. Florida is uniquely prone to hurricanes and requires a unique solution. Floridians need relief from soaring insurance rates. I'll work tirelessly toward this end.
I'll also work towards lowering property taxes intelligently. A comprehensive cut in our property taxes can be achieved in Tallahassee, while at the same time amply funding our police, fire and educational services.
I'm committed to amending inequitable Florida laws.
Finally, I'm strongly committed to job creation and growth. I will work to bring a diversified industrial base to our community.
